Last Friday, i was finally convinced to go for the Papilloma Vaccine, also commonly known as the cervical jab. Basically this vaccine is to reduce the risk of women getting cervical cancer in the later years. Cervical cancer is very common with ladies, 16 out of every 100,00 women will get it
EACH YEAR. Although the vaccine would not totally prevent a woman from getting cervical cancer, but it reduces the risk to less than 5%.
This vaccine can be taken from the age of 9 to 25 and it is most effective if it is taken before the first sexual exposure. And better still, for ladies in Singapore who are below age of 26, we're able to use $400 from our Medisave to pay for the vaccine. Leaving less than $150 to fork out from your own pocket, depending the types of vaccines you choose.
There are 2 types of vaccines. 1 is the Gardasils vaccine which has a better coverage that prevents cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer and genital cancer. Yes, genital cancer. Which means guys can take the vaccine too. The second type would be Cervarix vaccine. This would prevent solely on cervical cancer. I went for the Gardasils vaccine paying a little more for a better coverage why not?
So this are how the jabs look like:
There will be 3 jabs to be taken once every 2 months. For ladies with more toned arms, you will feel the sore immediately after the jab and would last for at least a day. For ladies blessed with less toned arms, you will not feel the sore at all. That's based on me and my friends' experiences :) And no other side effects unless you have allergies to or on medication.
Would strongly encourage all young ladies to go for the vaccine. It might not be a total prevention but at least its a protection. And what's even better with the Medisave scheme to leverage on? :D
